Background:

In the current European context, the issue of the health of people living inside prisons is critical and has worsened as a result of the Covid-19 crisis, putting the respect for human rights to the test. According to the WHO (2023), within European prisons the most common condition is mental health distress, however mental health care for inmates is often inadequate due to the high number of requests and lack of available human resources and tools.

It is well known that due to various factors that characterize the prison context, detained people present a high degree of mental suffering which is also made explicit in the high number of suicide attempts and self-harm.

Objectives:

The RESTART' main objective is to restore the emotional and psychological well-being of the (ex) prisoners, in order to promote their inclusion in the social context.

The project will follow 3 Objectives:
O1 Provide tools to the staff that works inside the prison to support the emotional and psychological well-being of the inmates;

O2 Support the inmates in the development and re-discovery of their socio-emotional skills;

O3 Promote (ex) prisoners’s social inclusion beyond the prisons.

(ex) prisoners’s social inclusion beyond the prisons.
